Paint Correction in Lakeside, TX
Water spots come in two kinds and only one of them is a washing problem.
The first is a mineral deposit sitting on top of the paint. It looks like a white ring, and a proper wash with the right product takes it off. The second is etching, where the deposit sat on hot paint long enough to eat a shallow crater into the clear coat. That one is not a stain. It is a change in the shape of the surface, and no amount of washing will touch it.
Around Lake Worth we see a lot of the second kind.
How to tell which one you have
Wash the panel and dry it properly. Then look at it from a low angle with the sun behind the spot rather than behind you.
If the mark disappears when the panel is wet and comes back as it dries, it is usually a deposit sitting on the surface. If the mark is still visible with the panel wet, and if it distorts the reflection rather than just colouring it, that is etching and it needs levelling.
Depth decides cost. Shallow etching often comes out in one step. Deeper etching needs compound.
Our steps and what they cost
Every correction includes a paint prep wash first: waxes and sealants stripped, iron deposits removed, clay bar over the whole car to lift bonded contamination. On lake vehicles that prep stage removes a surprising amount on its own.
Gloss enhancement polish, $525. Light marring and the dullness that comes with it, corrected, polished and sealed in one pass.
One stage correction, $675. Swirl marks, light scratches and shallow etching, using Americana Global 1500 leveling compound finished with Finesse Polish. Where most genuine water etching lands.
Two stage correction, $825. Deep defect removal using an aggressive microfiber cutting pad and a leveling compound, then a series of ultra-fine polishes.
We quote the lowest step that will actually clear the damage. Every correction removes a little clear coat, so going heavier than the paint needs costs you both money and material you cannot get back.
Correct it, then stop it happening again
Correction fixes what is already there. It does nothing about next summer.
If the vehicle keeps going to the water, follow the correction with a ceramic coating. Corrected paint is bare, and bare paint is exactly what etched in the first place. The coating makes water bead and leave before it evaporates, which is the actual mechanism that stops new etching.
Doing correction without protection on a lake vehicle means paying for the same job again in two years.
Questions we get from Lakeside
Can you remove water spots without polishing?
Surface deposits, yes. Etching, no. Etching is a physical depression in the clear coat and the only way to remove it is to level the surrounding surface down to its depth, which is what polishing does. Anyone offering to chemically dissolve etching out of clear coat is describing something that does not work.
The spots are on the glass too. Can you fix that?
Glass etches the same way paint does, and because it is harder it needs different work than a paint polish. Bring the vehicle in and we will look at the glass with you: some of what people take for etching is mineral deposit that comes off, and the rest is a separate conversation from the paintwork.
How long does a correction take?
A one step is usually a full day. Two and three step work is longer and depends on the size of the vehicle and how bad the paint is. We give you a real timeline after we have looked at it under proper light, not before.
