Window Tinting

Window Tinting in Westworth Village, TX

Westworth Village runs about a mile and a half end to end, and most of it looks at the flight line. Cars here spend a lot of time parked outside on hot concrete while their owners are somewhere else. That is a different tinting problem than a daily commuter has. You are not just cutting glare on the drive home, you are keeping a dashboard from cooking for six months.

We are at 700 N. Jim Wright Fwy in White Settlement. The base sits between us and you, so the drive comes around on Loop 820 and I-30, then in on Alta Mere and Westworth Boulevard. About 14 minutes.

What Texas law actually allows.

Most of what gets repeated about Texas tint is close but wrong. Here is what the statute says.

Front side windows, the ones either side of the driver: the film and the glass together must let through 25 percent of light or more, and reflect 25 percent or less. That is Texas Transportation Code 547.613(b)(2).

Windshield: a clear film can cover the whole windshield, provided the glass and film together still pass at least 70 percent of visible light. Tinted film is a different matter. It stays above the AS-1 line (or the top five inches where there is no line), at 25 percent or more, and never red, blue or amber. Texas Administrative Code, Title 37, Rule 21.3.

Behind the driver: side windows to the rear of the driver have no darkness limit. The rear window has none either, as long as the vehicle has a working mirror on both sides.

Two details almost nobody publishes. The law measures film and glass together, not the number printed on the film box, so a 35 percent film on already-tinted factory glass can land under the limit. And section 547.613(d) allows a three percent measurement tolerance, which is why a meter reading of 23 percent is not automatically a ticket.

The label is not optional, and it is on us

Texas puts the paperwork burden on the installer, not on you. Under section 547.613(a-1), a shop that applies film without fitting the label required by section 547.609 between the film and the glass commits a misdemeanor carrying a fine of up to $1,000.

Every car that leaves here gets that label. If a shop has ever tinted your car without one, that is the shop’s violation, and it is also the thing an inspector looks for

Window Tinting

Cut by hand, not by plotter

Film patterns come out of a plotter library, and the library only holds vehicles somebody has already measured. We cut by hand against the glass instead, which is why the cars that arrive here are often the ones another shop turned away: a 1970s coupe, a rebuilt import, anything with glass that is not in the software. Same fit either way.

Film we Install

3M Crystalline

The one to ask about if the car sits in the sun. It rejects heat without going dark, so you can stay well inside the legal 25 percent on the front doors and still lose the oven effect.

3M Ceramic IR

Strong heat rejection, no signal interference, mid range on price. The default choice for most vehicles we do.

Obsidian

Our traditional film. The right call when the job is glare and privacy rather than heat, and it is the least expensive way to get there.

Our window film carries a lifetime nationwide warranty, honoured anywhere in the country, which matters on a car that follows a posting. One thing voids it: layering a second film over the first. If a previous shop already filmed the glass, we strip it rather than build on it.

Window Tinting

If the car is going to sit

A vehicle parked outside for a deployment or a long TDY takes UV damage on a schedule nothing else does. Dashboards crack, leather goes hard and pale, and the top surfaces of the door cards fade first because they catch the most sun.

Tint slows all of that down, and it is the cheapest thing you can do about it. If the car is going to sit for months rather than weeks, ask us about pairing it with a ceramic coating on the paint. Two visits, one drop-off.
