Window Tinting in Westover Hills, TX
A lot of the cars we see from Westover Hills are not daily drivers. They come out on weekends, they live in a garage, and they have low mileage for their age. That changes what good tint work looks like.
On a commuter car the priority is heat. On a car that gets driven for pleasure, the priority is that the film is invisible, that it does not change the look of the glass from outside, and that nobody has touched the interior trim badly to get it fitted.
Why Crystalline is usually the answer here
3M Crystalline is a multilayer optical film rather than a dyed or metallised one. It rejects a high proportion of heat while staying light, so it does not read as tinted from the outside.
That matters on a car where the original look is the point. A dark film on a classic or on a car with a distinctive glass profile changes the whole character of the shape. Crystalline lets you take the heat out without doing that.
It is the most expensive film on our list and we will say so up front. On a daily commuter, nano ceramic gets you most of the way at a lower cost. On a car you chose for how it looks, the difference is worth paying for.
Older and rarer glass
Two practical points on cars over about twenty years old.
Rear defroster lines. On older glass the printed elements are fragile and a careless removal of old film takes them off with it. If there is existing film to strip, tell us the car’s age when you book so we allow proper time. A rushed strip is how defrosters die.
Trim and seals. Older door cards and window seals get brittle. Getting film into the top corners cleanly sometimes means dropping trim that does not want to come out. We would rather book the extra hour than force a clip.
If the glass is original and irreplaceable, say so when you call. It changes how we approach the job.
What Texas law allows
The limits apply to every vehicle, classic or not.
Front side windows: film and glass together must transmit 25 percent of light or more and reflect 25 percent or less. Texas Transportation Code 547.613(b)(2).
Windshield: the full glass can take a clear film, as long as the combined reading stays at 70 percent light transmission or above. Any darker shade band goes only above the AS-1 line (the top five inches if unmarked), no lower than 25 percent, and not red, blue or amber. Texas Administrative Code, Title 37, Rule 21.3.
Behind the driver: no darkness limit on rear side windows, and none on the rear window if both outside mirrors are fitted.
The reading is taken through film and glass together, and section 547.613(d) allows a three percent tolerance. Under section 547.613(a-1) the installer must fit the label required by section 547.609 between film and glass, or face a fine of up to $1,000. Every car we tint leaves with that label.
Film we Install
3M Crystalline
Heat rejection without darkness, which is the whole point on a car chosen for how it looks.
3M Ceramic IR
The middle of the range, strong on heat, no interference with electronics.
Obsidian
Our traditional film, for glare and privacy at the lowest cost.
The film carries a lifetime nationwide warranty. Layering another film over it is the one thing that ends that, so original glass gets one film and nothing on top.
Hand cut, which is why the classics come here
Plotter software holds patterns for vehicles somebody has already digitised, and a pre-war car or a low-volume import is usually not among them. We cut by hand against the glass, so the absence of a stored pattern is not a reason to turn a car away. On original glass that is also the gentler method: no template forced into a corner it was not measured for.
Questions we get from Westover Hills
Will Crystalline look tinted from the outside?
Barely, and that is the point of it. It is a multilayer optical film rather than a dyed one, so it takes heat out without going dark. On a car chosen for how it looks, it changes the temperature inside without changing the character of the glass.
Can you tint a classic with original glass?
Yes, with more time allowed. The risks on older cars are fragile defroster elements when stripping old film, and brittle trim and seals when working the top corners. We book the extra hour rather than rushing it. Tell us the year when you call.
How long does the job take?
Most vehicles take 1 to 5 hours, depending on size and how many windows we are doing.
